Please look around and discover all of the wonderful experiences that have shaped me into the person I am today. From attending The University of Toledo with the thought of becoming an engineer, to completing my Masters in Mental Health Counseling, I am confident that I have selected a vocational path that is my BEST fit.

My journey as a counselor has allowed me to not only touch the lives of individuals in my community, but also has motivated me to grow personally and professionally. No matter what career or personal challenges my clients possess, it is my duty to develop a therapeutic relationship that empowers them to make positive change and enhance their lives.

I specialize in helping individuals navigate transitions. Whether in a career or personal context, we all experience change and adversity. I have found that when people are prepared, diligent, and visualize their preferred outcomes, the results of their transition provide positive growth and new opportunities.

My Journey

  1. -
    Masters Degree , Oakland University

    Degree: Mental Health Counseling

My time at Oakland University is where I truly began to develop my professional identity. I applied for a Graduate Assistantship to work in The Adult Career Counseling Center and after being selected, I began the process of entering the career service industry. I now have the pleasure of saying that I have helped over 50 individuals and provided over 350+ direct hours with members from the surrounding Metro-Detroit communities. Although a person's career is not their entire life, it is a resource that is utilized to provide for themselves and their families.

During my clinical semester, I also had the opportunity to provide mental health services. This was not only a great educational experience, but also very rewarding due to the fact that I had the chance to help and watch individuals make positive changes in their lives. Learning how to case conceptualize in a mental health capacity has also helped me thrive in the career service industry.

    Career Management Consultant

I provide career coaching services for individuals in vocational transitions. Whether their company went through restructuring and their position/department was eliminated, or they took a voluntary severance package, it is my job to get these people back on their feet.

I encourage a balanced perspective where my clients are spending time on their careers, but also their personal lives. Most of my clients agree that their families are their top priority. Their next position should compliment their lives outside of work. A career should provide support, identity, purpose, and fulfillment, but it should also not add additional stress or come before our own well-being.

Questions & Answers

As a counselor, why do you work in the Career Service/Management Industry?

Although I thoroughly enjoyed my experience in a clinical setting, I could not help but notice that many of the clients I worked with were also experiencing career issues. Either that, or a negative work environment or job loss was inhibiting positive growth personally.

Think about when you meet someone new, what is usually the first question they ask you? Usually, some form of "What do you do for work?" comes up! It is my view that our careers are very much so part of our identity and intertwined with our personal lives. Knowing this, examining the clients I work with from a clinical and career perspective allows me to get the whole picture.

As a counselor, it is critically important to establish and develop your therapeutic approach. I am confident that working in the Career Service/Management fits my style and allows me to perform at my best for the clients I serve.

What do I mean by "Navigating Transitions"?
In order to adapt and successfully manage a transition, it is important to examine your support system, resources, strengths, and most importantly, visualize your preferred outcome! It is also important to maintain a balanced perspective. All successful athletes take time away from their craft; as should you. Whether in a personal or career transition, we as humans do not make the best decisions when we are stressed, burnt out, or frustrated. If you wake up feeling unmotivated, there is most likely a valid reason why. These are the types of days where participating in your respected self-care rituals and taking time off from your job search/transition is critical.

There are many times in an individual's life that they must face change and adversity. This can take place when a student is facing the difficult decision of selecting a major, when an employee unexpectedly loses a job, or if an individual is facing a personal event. Transitions can take many different forms, but it is important to note that strategies can be put into motion to help you take tackle these challenges head on!
Why did I become a counselor?
It is truly a rewarding experience for me to create an unbiased, non-judgmental, and educational platform for individuals to make positive growth in their personal and vocational lives.
